NOFA alumnus Nazar is coming back to join the orchestra this year for Musical Chairs. Now studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, we spoke to Nazar about his experience of being in NOFA and why he’s taking part in Musical Chairs this year. The National Orchestra for All ignited my passion for playing in orchestras. Seeing that the annual Musical Chairs event was approaching, I was keen to revisit NOFA once again to see what has changed and encourage the next generation of young students to continue to pursue music.
I have always loved musical residential courses; they somehow are able to bring people together, forming lasting friendships. NOFA is no exception. From the very first Summer course I attended back in 2011, the staff continuously set up a range of ‘ice-breaker’ activities as well as various small group challenges which encourages teamwork.
The impact NOFA had on me cannot be measured. It opened my eyes to a world of possibilities; motivating myself to pursue success itself. It is vital in this day and age that people across the country continue to support programmes such as NOFA in order to continue the existence of personal development through music. Perhaps results are expected to prove validity of such programmes in which case, look no further than myself and other NOFA alumni.
Upon realising the sheer joy of working with others in orchestras, I have continuously pushed myself to produce progress in my musical journey. I have now successfully gained a place to begin studying at the Royal Northern College of Music and I couldn’t be prouder and thankful for everyone that has supported my progress, including NOFA.
